Website hosting providers come in many flavours.  The two main groups are Windowsand Linux.  Windows providers and Linux providers can be further broken down by technologies supported and available products.  For an example a Windows provider may also support ASP.Net as well as Perl and CGI. There are many different technologies out there such as ASP.Net, PHP, Perl and CGI.  ASP.Net webhosting is done only on a Windows hosting environment.  Windows hosting is usually done on Windows Server 2003 and more recently on Windows Server 2008.  Some of the common versions of ASP.Net found on Windows plans include ASP.Net 1.1, ASP.Net 2, ASP.Net 3 and ASP.Net 3.5.  In addition to ASP.Net, some Windows providers also provide support for AJAX.
